Janet Weirich was born and reared in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and has been interested in creating art for as long as she can remember. As a young child, she would create tiny dolls using acorns and twigs from the large oak trees that grew in the front lawn and her school papers usually had drawings in the margins. In 1997, she finally decided to leave the corporate world and pursue her dream of becoming an artist. Although she is mostly self taught, she was fortunate enough to participate in several workshops with some master artists in the very beginning. "It was a wonderful beginning, but also very humbling. I realized how much I had to learn, but I was determined to become the best I could be. Art is so closely related to music. One doesn't learn the scales on a piano and start out playing like Mozart. It means a lot of practice, patience and love for the craft . There is no end to the learning process, but it is a very rewarding path to travel."
